Generally, homeowners insurance will cover a roof replacement if the damage resulted from vandalism, hail, lightning strikes, wind, fire, falling objects, or natural disasters. However, if your roof needs to be replaced due to gradual wear and tear or deferred maintenance, your insurance likely will not pay for it. This is especially true for roofs more than 20 years old.
